LAB OS — PART III PRACTICE | CHAPTER 10

Essential Habits & Culture

Research Habits & Culture — Research moves through daily practice

The difference in research is not "talent" but "the density of daily practice"

The chapters so far explained the "forms." This last chapter is about the daily habits that keep those forms turning. The one who accumulates the days is you.

  1. Research Log & Thinking Log — daily
  2. Paper Card (Paper Board) — weekly; keep updating the claim
  3. Team Meeting — regular; decisions and sparring (Next Judge)
  4. Lab Forum — regular; install and output
  5. Individual Meeting — periodic; checking the axis
  6. Quarter Plan — 90 days; visualizing the structure

Research Log and Thinking Log

Research moves by going back and forth between Fact → Interpretation. Because you record both, the back-and-forth happens. For examples of how to write and the form of the detailed log, see Lab Tools "Research Log & Thinking Log".

Thinking happens outside the brain — research moves by external records, not memory

  1. Brain — what you thought disappears
  2. Note — write it out externally
  3. Update — looking at the record moves your thinking forward

People who do not write always repeat the same mistakes. The method is simple: ① write once a day ② perfection is not needed ③ write hypotheses, facts, and interpretations. Writing moves research forward.

Once more, the most important thing

We value who you become through research more than the results. — Lab Policy (back to the promise at the start). Results → Human Growth. Research is a device for character building.

Everything discussed today was an implementation of the four Lab Values (Self-management, Integrity, Respect, Collective Inquiry). Values are shown in daily actions, not on posters. Make them your standard for action from tomorrow.

Culture is not accidental. It is designed. Structure → Habit → Culture. Everything in this chapter is a component for designing that culture.

Are you ready to update?

The installation of the research OS is complete — all that remains is to keep updating, every day.
